Today, 30th January 2020, Office of Ombudsman in partnership with Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) and Western Province Administration launched a campaign intended to informing citizens on Access to Information Law. This event took place in Kamonyi District where Rwandan Ombudsman Anastase Murekezi, said that all citizens have right to access information and warned all leaders to inform citizens so that there will no longer be waste of time in courts.

Illiterate citizens are considered as the big number of those who take their accusations in courts by skipping first instances which could solve such problems. This was said by Rwanda Ombudsman where he reminded citizens not to skip those instances and told leaders to focus on them and give them information as it is in their duties.

“You must first write to the President of court that red your judgement, and when they do nothing on that, you must wait for 30 days before writing a letter to the Ombudsman saying that you’re treated unjustly.” Said Rwandan Ombudsman

“The Duty of the leaders is just to feed the information to the citizens so that they will know fundamental laws that will guide them in case, especially illiterate ones, because if this is not done, the citizens will have risks of missing all of their properties including lands.” He added

Governor of Western Province Alphonse Munyantwali, encouraged citizens to do not fear journalists whenever not well served. He also said that having access to information profits both givers and receivers.

“Giving information must be our duty not only when we are asked to do so. It is very important to both of reporter and citizens as it helps to know whether what you do brings you some profits or not. We must change our mindset in giving and searching for information, we must also search for the truth and make it our guideline.” Said the Governor of Western Province Alphonse Munyantwali
