The leaders roundtable of the one and only company that produces cement in Rwanda, ‘CIMERWA Ltd’ say that it will never meet barriers for its production as the government sells its shares that it had in this company. CIMERWA ends 2019 on a high note as it registers a 20% yearly increase in its sales volume.

It is one of the topics that had been discussed about in press conference that happened today on 5th December 2019, in City of Kigali, by the company whose plant located in Rusizi district in the Western Province.

John Bugunya, The Chief Financial Officer at CIMERWA says that there are no worries about that selling of the government’s shares.

“It is not long time ago for the government to sell its shares in BK and in I&M Bank, the government sales its shares from different companies just to invest that money in other activities, nothing will affect us, it is like any other investor can sale his/her shares” John Bugunya says

“Rwanda Standard Board (RSB) proved that Cement of CIMERWA, has best quality comparing to those other cements that come from outside Rwanda.”
He added

Bugunya believes that CIMERWA’s productivity will develop depending on the ascending of quantity of cement that it produces, and they also participate in some other government’s activities.

“Kigali Convention Centre, Kigali Arena that was built within six months and schools are some of the government’s activities that we have participated, so that we believe that that partnership will still be there, because our cement is better and it is Made in Rwanda product, there is no gap that will occur because of the loss of the government’s sales.” Bugunya says

Bheki Mthembu, CIMERWA PPC’s CEO went on to explain that above and beyond profit making and optimizing production capacity, CIMERWA is a socially conscious and responsible company that aims at giving back to the communities it operates in. This stems from PPC Group’s purpose to fuel “A better life for all”.

“At CIMERWA we believe that businesses should have concerns that transcend profit making. Corporate Social Responsibility should not just be an ideal, it should be a part of every company’s way of doing business. We endeavor to impact all the communities we operate in positively. Our outreach programs target key areas that contribute to sustainable development. i.e. infrastructure, health, education, trade, sports and more” Bheki said

With vision 2020 here, CIMERWA’s plans to scale up to 90% production capacity by the same year and 100% by mid-2021 are underpinned by its commitment to deliver to the best of its ability to its loyal customers. This is also part of the Government of Rwanda’s agenda to reduce cement imports by gearing up local production.
