We are ready to partner with capable businesses to improve competitiveness and productivity – NIRDA

On the 30th October 2019, National Industrial Research and Development Agency (NIRDA), had an open calls program aimed at bringing businesses to the next level by supporting those business owners to address their technological and technical barriers to their growth and competitiveness in fruits and vegetables value chain, this inauguration took place in City of Kigali, Kicukiro District.

According to the problems that have seen in this program which were shown by the competitors during the month of July, this day was the day that came up with some solutions to some of the problems, the leader of NIRDA, Kampeta Sayinzoga Pichette explained and mentioned some of criteria that will be followed by the competitors to be successful.

“during your practices, we will give you support and guidance in every way just to be successful, the support is given through the line of coming up with innovation.”

“those who will be selected will be our partners within two years and all we need is long-term partnership.” She said

Researcher and Consultant Aimable Nsabimana from OPUNTIA explained some of gaps among the competitors where the main key of all problems he said that is the lack of capital. there is law level of producing, lack of extraction and heat treatment equipment, law level of certified firms and lack of packaging system and packaging materials.

After all these gaps Nsabimana said that all competitors need to be trained and much capital to maintain their level of production.

“they need to be trained how to produce the best quality products and to be trained how to use wastes that came from those final products in the way that does not harm environment.”

“Everyone can’t afford cold rooms but what can be done there can be atleast one in each district and investors are needed to invest in establishing cold rooms.” Nsabimana said

Applicants for NIRDA support must be established industries or enterprises within fruits and vegetable value chain having been in the business for more than two years.
