AIMPO vows to fight poverty and prejudices against Historically Marginalized people

A local Non Government Organization which deals with the fight against poverty in general but with main focus on the Historically Marginalized People in Rwanda. AIMPO organized a two day training from January 16-18, 2019, the training focused on educating about the laws, modern farming, fighting malnutrition and advocacy for people with disabilities.

The training was conducted in order to teach the Historically marginalized people and People with disabilities on best ways of modern farming on they land so that they can get out of poverty. They were also taught about the laws protecting their rights.

Uwajeneza Delphine the deputy director of AIMPO explaining about the training she said “we fast emphasized on explain about how it was in the past that The Historically Marginalized People and People with Disabilities were unfairly treated like believing that they were not capable of doing anything in order to develop themselves and the country as a whole, in the past they were ill treated to the extent some of them got pregnant and the culprits never faced any courts of law” she added that those in the category of the Historically Marginalized People and People with disabilities should be the first to understand the laws protecting their rights.

After training them on the law and their rights we intend to train them on better modern farming practices so as to eradicate completely malnutrition and stunted growth in their communities. She added.

In regard to helping the People with disabilities access the artificial limbs the deputy director said that on the first phase they started with helping the young ones who are usually locked up at home. If we get more funds we will roll out the program for the majority but at the beginning we will keep doing advocacy for all. The aid for children includes getting school materials and artificial joints in order for them to be able to go to school.

In a recent concluded recent concluded findings in the districts of Kicukiro, Kamonyi and Gasabo it was found out that the big number of people with disabilities are children with mental disabilities and mostly are left out to stay at home only without accessing any medical attention.

In other upcoming projects AIMPO plans to continue sensitizing different communities who have children with mental disabilities to take them to centers like Gatagara which can handle such manner professionally.

AIMPO continuosly advocate for Historically Marginalized People and People with disabilities to strive for better living standards by improving their wellbeing and of the nation in general.

About AIMPO is that the founder and the deputy founder all come from the background of Historically Marginalized People and people with disabilities.
Mukantabana Drocelle who resides in Mbabe Cell, Masaka sector, Kicukiro district, she is the head of cooperative of people with disabilities called “Twikure mu Bwigunge” made of 28 members of which have a money sharing scheme so that they could get out of poverty by developing themselves. She was happy with the training and she is going to share the knowledge with her cooperative members back home since it will help them and their families in general.
